The Role
We are looking for a Sous Chef with serious culinary ability and proven leadership skills to join our senior kitchen team. This is not a stepping-stone role – you’ll be at the heart of every service, running the pass with confidence, commanding the flow of the kitchen, and ensuring every plate leaves perfectly executed.
This venue often hits up to 2800 covers per WEEK, without a sweat, so its not to be taken lying down, some serious focus and eye for details is required here.

Key Responsibilities

Lead from the pass during busy services, maintaining pace, quality, and clear communication.

Support the Head Chef in menu development, prep planning, and maintaining brand standards.

Train, mentor, and inspire the brigade, creating a culture of discipline, respect, and pride in the food.

Ensure compliance with health & safety, hygiene, and allergen protocols.

Work proactively to manage prep schedules, stock control, and waste reduction.

About You

Proven experience as a Sous Chef (or strong Junior Sous stepping up) in a high-volume, high-profile environment.

Expert grill and butchery skills, with an eye for consistent presentation.

Calm under pressure with exceptional organisational and multitasking abilities.

A natural leader – respected on the pass, able to motivate, challenge, and guide the team.

Passionate about food, flavour, and delivering an unforgettable guest experience.

Requirements

Ability to commute/relocate:

York centre YO1: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)


Experience:

Min 5 years of culinary experience, minimum 1 year as Sous will be required

Casual, volume experience

Some serious mature diligence at fast pace, calm and professional leadership

Passion for teamwork, commitment and growth,


Licence/Certification:

Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (required)

H&S level 2 (required)

Allergen awareness training (required)


Work authorisation:

United Kingdom (required)

£35,000 Plus £5000 Tronc minimum
