About the Role

We’re delighted to be working with a well-established and highly regarded care setting in Greater Manchester, supporting residents with a range of care needs including dementia, nursing and complex conditions. With a strong focus on quality of life, dignity and creating a welcoming home-from-home environment, our client is now looking to strengthen its kitchen team with a chef who understands that great food is about far more than simply putting a meal on a plate. The Care Home Chef plays a central role in supporting residents’ wellbeing by preparing nutritious, appetising meals tailored to individual dietary needs. This role ensures high standards of food safety, contributes to a warm and homely dining experience, and works closely with care staff to promote residents’ health, dignity, and enjoyment of food.

Key Responsibilities
Meal Preparation & Menu Planning
• Prepare balanced, high‑quality meals for residents, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
• Create menus that are seasonal, varied, and aligned with residents’ dietary requirements (e.g., soft diets, diabetic, allergen‑free).
• Adapt meals for individual preferences, cultural needs, and medical conditions.
• Ensure portion control and nutritional standards are met.
Food Safety & Kitchen Management
• Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen and food storage areas.
• Follow all food hygiene, allergen, and infection control procedures.
• Monitor stock levels, rotate supplies, and complete regular inventory checks.
• Manage food orders within budget, ensuring minimal waste.
• Keep accurate records for temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and compliance audits.
Resident Support & Experience
• Support a positive dining experience by presenting meals attractively and considering residents’ dignity and independence.
• Communicate with residents to understand preferences and gather feedback.
• Work with care teams to support residents who require assistance with eating or have changing dietary needs.

Teamwork & Communication
• Collaborate with care staff, managers, and kitchen assistants to ensure smooth service.
• Attend training sessions and contribute to team meetings.
• Report concerns about residents’ nutrition or wellbeing promptly.

Skills & Qualities
• Strong cooking skills with the ability to prepare meals at scale.
• Knowledge of dietary needs in older adults and those with health conditions.
• Excellent organisation and time‑management.
• Compassionate, patient, and resident‑focused approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.

Working Hours
• Shift patterns may include early mornings, weekends, and bank holidays depending on the needs of the home.

Requirements

Ability to commute: Oldham

Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)


Experience:

Min 5 years of culinary experience, 1 year as CDP

Home style fresh food dining, volume and quality driven, with a proven background of 1 year in similar venues

Confident knowledge of, EHO requirements temperature control and food safety

Passion for teamwork, leading a team, will be required


Licence/Certification:

Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum required)

H&S level 2 (required)

Allergen awareness training (required)

N/Law (required)

Enhanced DBS is required - payable split by the client
